How many similarities to Batman and Robin can you see in the cartoon above? I especially like the visual salute to Bob Kane in panel 7, but panel 3’s reference to Adam West is interesting too.

60ish years ago, when I was a student at Northwestern University, I spent a lot of time in my Tau Delta Phi room writing on the walls and otherwise driving my roommate, David Gerber (no, not that David Gerber) insane. Last night one of those wall writings popped into my mind, so I quickly leapt out of bed and wrote down what I remembered.
Here’s what I wrote, for better or for worse.
God isn’t dead.
He simply never was.
It’s the boundless cruelty of Time
That makes us the idiots we all are.
If I were in school today, I’d probably make a meme out of this and then sit back and wait for a reaction that didn’t come.
So it goes…or went. Whatever. I’ve established that I’m an idiot so, in the words of Robert Blake (a second-rate actor and murderer who got me fired from Barretta, his not so big TV show that I like to think no one remembers: “And dat’s da name’a dat tune.”

It’s always with us, amiright?
Some people see the granny face above and remember it from our pasts.
Others see it as a kind of warning about our futures.
And then there’s a certain group of people who see it in our mirrors every day.
Of course my reasoning is specious,
But that’s because it isn’t reasoning at all.
It’s a feeling that comes straight from my unreasoning heart.
